How to Speed Up or Slow Down a Video
Last updated: June 12, 2026
Want to watch a long video faster, or study a fast moment in slow motion? Change the playback speed and save it, so you don't have to adjust it every time you watch. This guide shows you how.
What changing speed does
Speeding up shortens the running time so you can review content quickly (2× makes it half as long). Slowing down stretches it so you can examine fast motion. Unlike a player's speed button, this saves a file at the new speed, so you can post or share it directly.
How to change the speed
With our speed tool, just pick a speed. Your video is never uploaded — it's processed in your browser.
- Choose a video (drag & drop).
- Pick a speed (0.5×–2×).
- Click “Export at this speed.”
- Download the result.
Choosing a speed
| Speed | Good for |
|---|---|
| 0.5× (slow) | Checking sports form, demonstrating hand motions |
| 0.75× | Watching a bit slower, copying dance moves |
| 1.25×–1.5× | Time-saving review of lectures/tutorials |
| 2× (fast) | Quickly skimming a long video |
What happens to the audio?
The audio is sped up or slowed to match the video, but pitch is adjusted so it doesn't sound unnatural — speech stays intelligible at higher speeds. Videos with no audio are sped up video-only.
