How to Trim a Video (Cut Out Just the Part You Need)
Last updated: June 12, 2026
Want to keep just one part of a long video, or cut off the unwanted start and end? That's trimming. This guide shows you how to cut out exactly the segment you need — free, no upload, in your browser.
What is trimming?
Trimming means choosing a “from–to” range and exporting only that segment. It's handy for removing shaky or silent parts at the start/end, pulling a short clip out of a long video for social, or reducing file size by keeping only what matters.
How to trim a video
With our trim tool, just set the range. Your video is never uploaded — it's processed in your browser.
- Choose a video (drag & drop).
- Set the range to keep (start–end) with the sliders.
- Click “Cut this range.”
- Download the trimmed clip.
Tips for an exact cut
1. Play, pause, then set the position
To land on the exact spot, play the video, pause where you want, and click “Set start/end to current.” It's far more precise than dragging by eye.
2. The resolution stays the same
Trimming only cuts the time range, so the frame size (resolution) is preserved. Ideal when you want to shorten without losing quality.
3. Compress afterward to go lighter
To reduce size, trim first, then compress. Shorter length plus lower resolution fits within email/chat limits.

- A. WebM, which plays in major browsers and apps.
- Q. Is my video uploaded?
- A. No. Everything is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.
